CIUDAD REAL

TOWN HALL

A unique of Neogothic inspiration, built in 1976 by Fernando Higueras. The architect tried to emulate the decoration of Central European civilan buildings in concrete. It is situated on the site of the old Town Hall on one side of the main square.

CARILLON CLOCK

Set above the Casa del Arco, the old Town Hall, in the main square in Ciudad Real. At certain times, on the hours, the figures of Don Quixote, Sancho and Cervantes emerge onto the balcony to the sound of the chimes.

TOLEDO GATE

The Puerta de Toledo is one of the few remains of the mediaeval wall that encircled the city and which coincides with the modern-day layout of the ring road, some 4,5 km in length. The fortification of the city had begun in 1297 and, according to chronicles of the era, there were as many as 130 towers along the extensive perimeter. The gate, which was one of the city's most important, ii a robust construction in the Gothic Mudejar style, built using ashlars and rough-hewn locally-sourced limestone blocks. The structure comprises six arches, harmoniously combining pointed and horseshoe arch types. The two exterior arches are pointed, heavily cambered, resting on columns backing on to the wall, another two, of the horseshoe type, one of them pointed and without on alfiz, and two more interior pointed arches, between which the portcullis was lowered.

DON QUIXOTE MUSEUM AND CERVANTES LIBRARY

An exhibition of reproductions of Don Quixote characters, audiovisual display and a magnificent librarydevoted to the theme of Cervantes, available to researchers and students.

GRAN CASINO

This building in the classic style was inaugurated in 1887,and was the work of Sebastian Rebollar. It is well known for its mouldings, for its radiators whose ornamentation is of clearly vegetable inspiration, its beautiful chandeliers or its Literary Meeting Room decorated with mythological motifs. It is used nowadays as a multifunctional cultural space.

CHURCH OF SANTIAGO

This is the city's oldest building, built towards the end of the 13th century and its exterior display great simplicity, with is square, two section tower. The interior structure is of three naves with a beautifully crafted polychrome celling inspired by the Mudejar style. A striking, polychrome, seven-headed dragon is to be seen on the apse ceiling.

MUSEUMS AND MONUMENTS

Hospital de Tavera

A Renaissance building repressenting the architectural and urban renovation planned by the Enperor Carlos V for Toledo in the 16th century. Formidable art collection and Flemish elements. It's Spanish Nobility archive and it's period hospital pharmacy are worthy of note.

CRISTO DE LA LUZ MOSQUE

This 10th century building is the only one still preserved from before the Christon Reconquest. It is supported by 9vaults, with decorated colums and capitals.

ALCAZAR-ARMY MUSEUM

One of Toledo's most symbolic buildings, whose earliest origins go back to Roman times (3rd century). Conceived historically as a fortress, castle or palace, its main fasade is the work of Alonso de Covarrubias. It now howses the new Army Museum and the Regional Library of Castilla La Mancha. In its most recent history, one of its functions was as the Infantry Academy.

BISAGRA GATE

Extended and rebuilt in 1555,it has a large entry arch, flanked by stout semicircular towers. Over the gate is the imperial shield of Carlos V, as it was conceived as a triumphal archway.

ALFONSO VI GATE

Also referred to as the Old Bisagra Gate, it is of Moorish origin, dating from the early 10th century, and is one of the most interesting examples of military architecture of the time.

CAMBRON GATE

Rebuilt in the second half of the 16th century, it has double gates and four towers; its name derives from the buckthorn bushes which grew nearby.

SAN MARTIN BRIDGE

Dating from the 14th century, the bridge spans four arches and is defended by two gate towers ;an extraordinary example of military architecture in times of Cardenal Gil de Albornoz.

CRISTO DE LA VEGA HERMITAGE

The remains of the Basilica of Santa Leocadia, where the first Visigoth Councils of Toledo were held.

PUERTA DEL SOL GATE

Built mainly in the 14th century, the most important access to the city. A beatiful example of Toledo's Mudejar architecture.

ALCANTARA BRIDGE

Of Roman origin, and rebuilf in Moorish times, it rests on two round arches, and supports the fortified gate tower. In the vicinity of the bridge is the beginning of the roman aqueduct.

CHURCH OF EL SALVADOR

Built in Moorish times, it houses a Visigoth pilaster with a representation of figures of exceptional importance, and an old minaret converted into a bell tower. This is one of the churches mentioned in Lazarillo de Tormes.

4 века от смъртта на Сервантес

През 2016 година в цялата облас Ла Манча, Испания честват 4 века от смъртта на Сервантес. В програмата са включени различни театрални постановки на известния на всички Дон Кихот, Експозиции, концерти, фестивали и още различни подобни прояви.
Градът който се смята за "дом на Дон Кихот" е Ciudad Real. Тук се намира най-уникалният музей - музей на Дон Кихот, в който са включени различни постановки от великия роман на Сервнтес. В този музей е поместена и Библиотеката на Сервантес. В градът също така на много площади има скулптури на Дон Кихот и на Сервантес.
